RAGBRAI is coming through Des Moines on July 26! Cyclists will arrive from Ames and are then headed to Tama-Toldeo after their stop in our city. The Avenues of Ingersoll & Grand district is conveniently located just a quick 10-minute bike ride away from the concert and camping areas in Water Works Park and is easily accessible by two-wheels. Whether you’re riding through Des Moines for your RAGBRAI route, or a neighbor in our district, check out the free events and things to do while you’re here:

  • Elevated Bike Lanes on Ingersoll Avenue
    • Check out our new streetscape with elevated bike lanes and plenty of bike parking! Take a ride down our bike-friendly corridor and see all we have to offer along Ingersoll Avenue.
  • Chain & Spoke
    • See one of the newest additions to our district that is home to a coffee and bike shop. Whether you need a pick-me-up or a bike repair, Chain & Spoke (515 28th St.) is the place to go!
  • “Knit”-ical Mass

    Fiber artist Jen Geigley and yarn-bombed bicycles for RAGBRAI.

    • Fiber artist Jen Geigley along with a group of community volunteers have been hard at work knitting cycling-inspired, yarn-bomb art installations along Ingersoll for riders and neighbors to view and enjoy! See if you can spot all of the yarn-bombed bikes on your next visit to our corridor.
  • Jacob Kuperman Mural
    • See the cycling inspired work of Des Moines artist Jacob Kuperman (pictured above) along the retaining wall near 25th and Ingersoll Avenue. Psst – it would make a great photo op for your RAGBRAI scrapbook.
  • Mural Painting at Audio Labs
    • Stop by Audio Labs (2212 Ingersoll Ave.) at any time on July 26 to see the mural on the west side of their building get a makeover. Graffiti artists Asphate and the Scarce Elementz Crew will be hard at work during the day, so stop by and see the art come to life!
  • Pedal Party at Big Grove Brewery
    • Big Grove Brewery (555 17th St.) is opening early at 10 a.m. for a Pedal Party on their patio! Enjoy grilled food, beer, and live music from DJ Richie Daggers. The event is free at open to the public with ample bike parking available so head to Big Grove for a glass of Tailwind Ale after you ride into town.
  • RAGBRAI Menu at Lucky Lotus
    • $10 Entrees will be available on July 26! Outdoor seating will be available in the back and drink specials will be announced at a later date. Riders and neighbors can enjoy:

      • Drunken Noodles
      • Yellow Curry
      • Mrs. Brightside
  • Duck, Duck, Panka!
    • 800 ducks will be hidden around Water Works Park with a coupon that can be used at either Panka locations! Snap a photo and share it to Instagram, using #duckduckpanka and win a free appetizer at Panka Peruvian Restaurant (2708 Ingersoll Ave.), or a free smoothie and Panka Chicken! (3018 Forest Ave.)
  • Gelatopalooza at Chocolaterie Stam
    • Looking for a sweet treat? Check out Chocolaterie Stam (2814 Ingersoll Ave.) for a large gelato for the price of a medium any time on July 26!
  • Late Night Shopping at Zzz Records
    • Zzz Records (2200 Ingersoll Ave.) will be open late from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 26! Make any purchase of $5 or more and they will ship it to your home, free of charge! No need to lug it all the way to Davenport!
  • Wake up at Zanzibar’s Coffee Adventure!
    • Before you leave town on July 27, pick up a morning brew at Zanzibar’s! (2723 Ingersoll Ave.) They will be open at 6 a.m. for the early birds and for riders to stop by on their way out of Des Moines!
