Annual family-friendly block party returns August 27

Ingersoll LIVE, presented by Bankers Trust, returns for its 18th year on August 27. The free community event will once again take over the 2800 block of Ingersoll Avenue from 4-11 p.m. with three stages of live music and entertainment plus local vendors, food trucks, art and family activities.

Lineups for the two main stages include local bands The June Bugs, Faculty Lounge, Dueling Pianos of Andy Anderson & Mike Leeds and The Punching Pandas. The lineup for the Community Stage, which will highlight area youth arts organizations, will be announced at a later date. The Isiserettes Drill & Drum Corps will kick-off the event.

“Ingersoll LIVE is a celebration of our corridor and the people and local businesses who are part of it,” said Lauren Kollauf, executive director of The Avenues of Ingersoll & Grand, the nonprofit organization behind the event. “Our street has seen a lot of progress in recent years and we are more excited than ever for the future of The Avenues. We invite our neighbors and greater community to visit our annual block party and see what makes our district so special.”

As an official designated Cultural and Entertainment District by the Iowa Arts Council, The Avenues hopes this year’s event can highlight the arts in new and engaging ways: Des Moines-based chalk artist Kathleen Roling will create a 3-D hopscotch in the middle of the street, the Des Moines Art Center will host an interactive art station for kids and artists are invited to register for the event as vendors.

In addition to art and music, other activities include a kids’ zone with inflatables, mini golf, face painting and a balloon artist, plus pop-up dance performances, food trucks, a beverage tent and community vendors. A bike valet hosted by the Street Collective will also be available.

“Bankers Trust has been part of this community for 105 years, and helping the communities we serve grow and thrive has been a priority since day one,” says Emily Abbas, Senior Vice President, Chief Consumer Banking and Marketing Officer at Bankers Trust. “We’re proud to be part of Ingersoll LIVE and eager to bring our neighbors, businesses and local organizations together to celebrate community through this fun-filled event.”

In addition to Bankers Trust, Ingersoll LIVE is supported by Prairie Meadows, Polk County Board of Supervisors, Xtream powered by Mediacom, MidAmerican Energy, Star Bar, Lincoln Savings Bank, Veridian Credit Union, Two Rivers Bank, West Bank and other community sponsors.
