Take a bird’s eye view of the Ingersoll Avenue streetscape

It’s been a year of progress on Ingersoll Avenue! During the 2022 construction season, eight blocks of streetscape were completed along the south side of the road from Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway to 28th Street. That’s ½ mile!

Improvements mirrored the work that was done on the north side during 2020 and 2021, including wide sidewalks, additional seating, protected bike lanes, parking pavers, enhanced pedestrian crosswalks and additional planter beds.

What’s ahead for 2023? In early spring, trees and plantings will be added to the 75 beds built in 2022 and landscaping will be added to the pedestrian bump-outs. However there will be no major work happening in the road way next year. In 2024, crews will return to Ingersoll Avenue in the stretch between 28th and 31st Streets to add protected bike lanes and parking pavers.

Thanks for your support during this transformational time on The Avenues! Special thanks to the City of Des Moines, Jasper Construction and Kirkham-Michael for their efforts and collaboration on this project.

Now its time to come enjoy our streetscape!
