Terrace Hill is not only the Iowa Governor’s Residence but also a National Historic Landmark that provides educational opportunities for youth and adults.

“We strive to continue to share Terrace Hill’s rich history with the public, and to make Terrace Hill accessible for future generations to enjoy. The Terrace Hill Partnership’s mission is to preserve and enhance the property and programs of Terrace Hill,” said Wergeland.

The Terrace Hill Partnership group is a group that oversees the restoration and upkeep of the Residence at 2300 Grand Avenue. Tours and special events held at Terrace Hill provide the Partnership with necessary funds for future restoration projects.

Terrace Hill began construction in 1866 and was later acquired by the state in 1971. Terrace Hill sits atop the highest point in Des Moines and is “an exquisite example of the residential Second Empire design.”
