2024 Construction Updates

Thank you for continuing to support our businesses, retailers, restaurants, artists and neighbors on Ingersoll & Grand through construction season. Utilize this page to find the most up-to-date information regarding construction projects on our corridor.

Ingersoll Streetscape

This transformational streetscape project is necessary to keep our district safe and easy to navigate for all modes of transportation, to promote walkability and accessibility for all, to improve stormwater management, to update public utilities for our residents, businesses and property owners – and always, to maintain the beauty and character of our west side neighborhoods. Learn more HERE.

Spring 2024: Construction of Phase 4 will impact Ingersoll Avenue between 28th–31st Streets throughout the construction season. Expect road work until mid-November. Read a summary of what’s expected HERE. Throughout the construction project two-way traffic will remain operational. To see graphics of the anticipated construction stages, click HERE.

June 20 Weekly Update: Crews plan to finish grading, install sub-drain, install granular and start setting up for paving by end of next week on the south side of the 2800 block. Currently, the road is scheduled to be asphalted and re-opened in the first half of July. On the north side of 2900-3100 blocks, crews plan to start storm sewer installation next week. After that is complete, they hope to begin grading as soon as possible. See the current work zone here: Ingersoll Staging Graphic.

Western Ingersoll Sewer Separation

The Western Ingersoll Sewer Separation project will upgrade the Western Ingersoll Basin to prevent combined sewer overflows, reduce flow to the Des Moines Metropolitan Wasteland Reclamation Facility, and comply with state requirements. This is a necessary public works project to ensure our sewers are sanitary and safe! See project maps and learn about sewer separation phases HERE. Here are the impacts you can expect to see in 2024:

Phase 1: Minor clean-up remains on Ingersoll. Sewer work will occur on Pleasant Street from 39th to 41st streets. For further information, contact: Brad Brockman, City of Des Moines, brbrockman@dmgov.org

Phase 3: Minor sidewalk and clean-up work remains. Signage and striping will occur on 35th Street. For further information, contact: Justin Miller, City of Des Moines, jwmiller@dmgov.org
