DES MOINES, Iowa — Business owners and residents around Ingersoll and Grand avenues have given the area a new name: The Avenues.
Backers of the re-branding say they want their west side neighborhoods to have a recognizable name, much like the east end of downtown is now widely known as the East Village.
“We wanted a concise, coherent name to capture the spirit of this place,” said Matt Coen, an architect who works on Ingersoll Avenue and serves as a consultant for the area.
