DES MOINES — David Baker wasn’t even 2 months old when the obituary for vinyl records appeared inside The Des Moines Register.
“LPs face extinction, music experts say,” read the headline next to the theater listings in the Aug. 19, 1988, edition. Two years earlier, CD sales surpassed vinyl records, though cassette tapes still outsold both, the story said.
