Visit the Des Moines Art Center

Established in 1948, the Des Moines Art Center exists to engage and stimulate the communities of Greater Des Moines and beyond. We are home to an exceptional collection of art made between 1500 and the present day. We offer free exhibitions, programs, tours, and lectures at our main campus in Greenwood Park, consisting of three unique buildings designed by world renowned architects Eliel Saarinen, I. M. Pei, and Richard Meier. We also oversee the iconic John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park in Western Gateway Park, which opened in 2009, and provide dozens of art classes for kids, teens, and adults in our amazing studios.

How to Get Here: The Avenues of Ingersoll & Grand district is located less than a mile from downtown Des Moines, about a mile south of Drake University and a mile north of Water Works Park – close to some our community’s greatest assets and easily accessible by car, bike, bus, or on foot! Where to Stay: There’s plenty of hotels near and in Downtown Des Moines which is less than a mile away from The Avenues of Ingersoll & Grand district. You may also consider checking vacation rental websites if you’d like to stay in one of the historic homes surrounding the district. The Avenues will soon be home to a boutique hotel – Hotel MoLo at 2525 Grand Avenue – so stay tuned!
