May is Bike Month! Ingersoll is the most bike-friendly corridor in the metro thanks to our streetscape and off-street, protected bike lanes.

Here’s how you can celebrate with us in May:

Tour the corridor on two wheels

If you haven’t visited the new Ingersoll Avenue bike lanes – we invite you to come check them out. Bike counts last year showed that there are an average of 170 cyclists using Ingersoll Avenue every day! When you visit your favorite local business on two wheels, there is always a bike rack available within the block for you to park. Reminder: You can also ride the DART bus (Ingersoll is served by routes 11 and 60) for free in May if you board with a bike.

Stop by the Bike-Ped Open House

Active Transportation enthusiasts are invited to an Open House on May 6 from 6-8 PM at Confluence Brewing Company. The event is hosted by the Bike-Ped Roundtable of the Des Moines Area MPO. Meet other advocates, interact with the people who are working to improve trail networks, and have opportunity to share your ideas! The Avenues of Ingersoll & Grand will be there with free bike water bottles for whoever stops by our table!

Join our Bike Month Ride with CHAIN & SPOKE

The Avenues is teaming up with Chain & Spoke (coffee + bike shop combo) for a Bike Month Ride on Thursday, May 29 from 5-7 PM. Join us for social hour at the shop (515 28th Street) followed by an 11-mile ride along the Ingersoll bike lanes and through Water Works Park. All bikes, bodies & levels are welcome! We’ll have a ride leader and a sweeper – no one will be left behind. This is a great way to meet people in the cycling community!
