The Refill Market offers refillable, vegan groceries that are perfect for folks looking to reduce plastic use when grocery shopping. BYOJ (bring your own jar) or get one from the shop to fill up with cooking ingredients or your favorite snack.
The grocery also offers premade meals from New World Kitchen for shoppers on the go.
The Refill Market opened in November 2025. Owner Amanda Seals hopes “to grow the inventory to provide more items for the community and hopefully someday be more of a one-stop shop.”
Amanda’s passion for caring for the Earth and her community is clear. Not only does The Refill Market offer sustainable grocery shopping and reusable kitchenware, but the shop also offers a pay-what-you-can composting service. Customers can bring any item on Compost Ninja’s composting list.

“Sustainable grocery options are not found anywhere else nearby. The composting service is great for those without a yard or the resources to do it,” said Amanda.
The Refill Market is a welcome, unique, and sustainable solution for environmentally conscious residents of Des Moines, so it is not a surprise that the grocery has gained public attention.
