Artessa Development Announces First 55+ Cooperative Community in Iowa: Artessa on Ingersoll
Dynamic, maintenance-free living coming soon to Des Moines
First informational meeting for prospective members on Feb. 25
Artessa Development and its affiliate Lifestyle Communities, an award-winning developer of cooperative communities for active adults throughout the Midwest, announces its newest development: Artessa on Ingersoll. Coming soon to the west side of Des Moines, Artessa on Ingersoll will offer 55+ Iowans a new way of living that’s focused on simplicity, social connections and ownership in a community.
Artessa on Ingersoll – which is Artessa’s first co-op community in Iowa and 45th developed, financed or managed in the Midwest – will be part of The Avenues of Ingersoll & Grand district. To be located at Ingersoll Avenue and 31st Street, residents will be joining a boutique-style community in a historic neighborhood within walking distance to a variety of small shops, public art and a vibrant dining scene.

“After developing dozens of cooperative communities, we believe we have perfected the art of living for people 55 and better,” said Dena Meyer, president of Lifestyle Communities and its affiliate, Artessa Development. “We’re thrilled to bring this housing and lifestyle choice to a prime location in Iowa and offer residents a maintenance-free, amenity-rich home that offers financial flexibility and a built-in social network.”
Artessa’s unique co-op model brings financial advantages similar to traditional homeownership. Members collectively own and control the community, buying a share in the cooperative corporation which owns the land, building and common areas. Members receive the exclusive right to occupy a specific residence and enjoy all the maintenance-free living benefits, as repairs, replacements and outdoor upkeep are covered by shared community costs.
Artessa on Ingersoll will be comprised of 52 boutique-style residences ranging from 1,172 to 1,868 square feet and six villa-style townhomes at approximately 1,700 square feet, which include:
- Personalization Options: Unlike a rental, members can work with our design team to personalize their residence’s finishes and interior aesthetic.
- Sought-After Features: Residences will feature professionally designed floor plans, state-of-the-art, fully equipped kitchens, maintenance-free decks/patios, individual heating and cooling systems, ample storage and much more.
- In-Demand Amenities: Within the community, members can take advantage of shared spaces and amenities that inspire social gatherings, fitness, wellness, hobbies, business and entertainment.

“The Avenues is excited to welcome Artessa on Ingersoll to our neighborhood,” said Lauren Kollauf, executive director of The Avenues of Ingersoll & Grand. “Future members will have easy access to all of the district’s shopping, dining and cultural amenities just outside their doorsteps.”
Artessa is hosting its first informational meeting where prospective members can learn about the co-op concept, lifestyle and residences, plus reserve a space in the exclusive community. Those who secure their reservation early will receive a priority number that gives them first pick in selecting their floor plans, garage stalls and more. These “Charter Members” will also enjoy added perks and home personalization options.
