Introducing Art on The Avenues – a weeklong celebration of local art and creative collaboration between the Ingersoll business district and surrounding neighborhoods.

Events will be held in traditional and non-traditional art spaces along the corridor including restaurants, parks, sidewalks and galleries. Art on The Avenues will showcase local artists and invite you to participate in the experience, even giving you opportunities to be the artist yourself.

Saturday, June 14:
  • North of Grand Art Stroll – Come stroll about as folks show off art in the neighborhood from 11 AM–3 PM! Artists will be concentrated on 38th street, which will be closed between Center and Pleasant for a block party & creative celebration. Music, art, food and fun! Free to attend. Monday, June 16: 
  • Doodle Wall – The Doodle Wall, featuring 5 local artists, will be on the Palmer’s Deli patio (2843 Ingersoll) and ready for coloring from 11 AM–1 PM. Come get creative during your lunch break! Special thanks to Moberg Gallery and Big Grove for Good Foundation.

Artists of all ages are invited to Art Rocks! at Chamberlain Park on June 17.

Tuesday, June 17:
  • Art Rocks! with the Des Moines Art Center – A free, family-friendly crafting event from 10:30 AM–12:30 PM.  at Chamberlain Park (2134 Woodland Ave) in the Woodland Heights neighborhood. Come paint a rock to hide along The Avenues or bring it home to share with friends and neighbors! Supplies & guidance provided by Des Moines Art Center. Free to attend.
  • Doodle Wall – The Doodle Wall, featuring 5 local artists, will also be on display and ready for coloring during the Art Rocks! event. Special thanks to Moberg Gallery and Big Grove for Good Foundation.

  • Doodle Wall – The Doodle Wall, featuring 5 local artists, will be in the alley next to Lachele’s Fine Foods (2716 Ingersoll) and ready for coloring from 11 AM–1 PM. Come get creative during your lunch break! Special thanks to Moberg Gallery and Big Grove for Good Foundation.
  • City Sounds Sidewalk Concert: Stroll by the City Sounds piano located in front of Ted’s Coney Island (3020 Ingersoll) on from 4–6 p.m. to hear jazzy tunes played by local musician Aaron Finkle. Free to attend.
Friday, June 20:
  • Doodle Wall – The Doodle Wall, featuring 5 local artists, will on the sidewalk near Zanzibar’s Coffee Adventure (2723 Ingersoll) and ready for coloring from 9–11 AM. Come get creative while you grab your morning coffee. This is the last chance to color on the Doodle Wall! Special thanks to Moberg Gallery and Big Grove for Good Foundation.
  • Poetry on The Avenues! –  The leaders of the Des Moines Poetry Workshop are excited to perform at “Poetry on The Avenues!” at Dugan’s Hideaway (3124 Ingersoll) from 7-9 PM. Come out for this showcase and sign up to read during the open mic as well! Featured poets include: Kelsey Bigelow, Ashton Jordan, Cainon Leeds, and Anna Zilbermints.
Saturday, June 21:
  • Inger-Solstice Block Party at the Woodland Realm – Stop by the Woodland Realm (24th & High Streets) in the Woodland Heights neighborhood from 1-4 PM for an afternoon of family-friendly revelry and celebration of the Summer Solstice at the urban garden and woodland. There will be activities throughout the garden, a splash zone for kids, yard games, live music, and local art. Light refreshments provided, and food will be available for purchase from Veggie Thumper & Pints by Beth. Free to attend. Follow The Woodland Realm on Instagram for more event updates.
